Intertextuality and Deadpool 2

Reflection 1: The More We Know, The More We See

Intertextuality happens a lot in different media texts when it comes to recreating scenes or dialogue that connects to other medias you seen in the past. It's a common use of intertextuality because of the sequels in movies or obvious pop culture references in television shows. A movie that use intertextuality throughout the film would be Deadpool 2. Ryan Reynolds's work in the role was a masterpiece with funny satire and witty jokes. His jokes in the Deadpool 2 movie was in the expense of different movies from Disney, other Marvels movies, the DC movies, James Bond, and other references. As we watch movies involving intertextuality, we adapt visual perspective as audience to understand the movies we see that have similar aspects like of previous media contents. Some examples of intertextuality in Deadpool were when Wilson sang "Wanna you build a snowman" after witnessing his wife died from and the intro of the movie is James Bond like with theatrical imagery. Even though some people seen the similarity, the eyes are trained somewhat differently in knowing references. Natharius said it best, "We all see the world in a slightly different way because we are all slightly different human beings." Dead pool also did more intertextuality with the scene of going back in time and shot himself twice of pervious roles of the closed mouth Deadpool in X men Origin Wolverine and the Green Lantern. The experience of using intertextuality in films contributes to the visual perception of imagery which is dominating in the 21st century. Overall, intertextuality is a primary tool of connecting visual literacy to media which Dead pool accomplish by breaking the 4th wall. "The more we know, the more we see" quote is the basics of what contributes to intertextuality and other concepts to learn what we see before seeing the movie first.
